寒假锦囊：轻松掌握英语介词固定搭配不用背

　　由于缺雨庄稼都受到了影响。

　　(缺雨是庄稼受影响的原因，所以suffer后要用from，这时，还需刻意去记suffer from这个单词吗?)

　　一个介词本身并不麻烦，可一旦它与其它动词、形容词搭配就“变化多端”了。现在，我们已掌握了from的基本意思是“离开、断开、区分”，看看常见的和from固定搭配的词组可否由介词的基本意来推出其意思。

　　1. stop sb. from doing sth.

　　prevent sb. from doing sth.

　　keep sb. from doing sth.

　　dissuade sb. from doing sth.

　　restrain sb. from doing sth.

　　阻止、劝阻、约束某人做某事，即让某人远离那件事

　　例：She managed to restrain him from taking such a foolish step.

　　她总算约束住他使他没有采取这样一个愚蠢的步骤。

　　2. protect sb. from sth

　　save sb. from sth

　　保护某人不受……伤害，免于……危险，即让某人远离伤害、危险

　　例：He saved the child from drowning.

　　他救了那孩子使他没被淹死。

　　3. Oh, how nice the room looks!

　　It is so different from before.

　　be different from 表示与……不同

　　from 即表示一事物区分于另一事物。

　　与此相关的还有：

　　tell……from……

　　distinguish……from……

　　4. I didn’t discourage Pamela from doing her art project.

　　(This sentence means I wanted Pamela to continue her project.)

　　这也应属于第一点“劝阻某人做某事”，但由于discourage并不常用，所以单列出来。而且由于易受have courage to do sth.(有勇气做某事)的影响，我们对是否用from容易举棋不定。既然是劝阻某人做某事，就是远离那件事，即用from.

　　5. She has just recovered from a serious illness.

　　她害了一场重病，刚刚痊愈。

　　从疾病中恢复，即已离开疾病，或与疾病断开了关系。

　　6. He couldn’t tear himself away from the show.

　　她看演出看得舍不得离开了。

　　tear sb. /oneself away from 即离开那个让他恋恋不舍的事物

　　7. Max felt sick and stayed home from school. Max

　　感觉不舒服，呆在家里没上学。

　　stay home from school呆在家里没上学，即离开了学校。

　　8. If you take three from eight, five remains.

　　八减三等于五。

　　从八中减去了三，即三离开了八。

　　9. from now on / from then on 从现在起/从那时起

　　不论是now还是then，都是从那一点离开、断开。

　　例：Once the difficulties are overcome, it is all plain sailing from then on.

　　这些困难一克服，以后就会一帆风顺了。

　　10. far (away) from 远远不是

　　此短语后通常为离开的，未达到的理想的事物或状态。

　　例：It was far from being a satisfactory conference.

　　这远不是一次令人满意的会议。

　　He is far from pleased.

　　他一点儿也不高兴。

　　11. aside / apart from 除了……

　　除去那些即离开那些事物或方面

　　例：It is good work, apart from a few slight faults.

　　除去一些小问题，这活儿做得很好。

　　12. be divorced from 脱离，即离开那一点

　　例：Their thinking is divorced from social practice.

　　他们的思想脱离社会实践。

　　13. be absent from 缺席，不在，即离开了那应参加的活动

　　例：He is deliberately absent from the meeting.

　　他故意不到会。

　　14. be exempt from 免除，即离开了不应予以的

　　例：Personal effects are exempt from custom duty.

　　个人物品是免除关税的。

　　15. be free from 免除、解除、使摆脱，即远离了那束缚人的事物

　　例：The happy old man is free from care.

　　那愉快的老人无忧无虑。

　　类似的还有：

　　free from pain 没有痛苦

　　free from trouble 没有苦恼

　　free from slavery 不受奴役

　　free from debt 摆脱债务

　　free from blame 免于过失

　　free from contagion不被传染

　　16. be tired from 由于……而感到疲劳

　　例：He was tired from climbing that hill.

　　爬山使他感到很疲劳。

　　前面已经说过，当from表示原因时，句子前后的因果关系非常明显，无需刻意记忆词组。

　　17. from ... point of view 从……观点看

　　例：They all admired the thing from a literary point of view.

　　他们都从文学的观点来加以赞赏。

　　I can’t understand why you won’t look at this matter from the right point of view.

　　我不明白你为什么不能从正确观点来看这件事。

　　这一短语似乎不能用from的基本意思“离开”来解释。实则不然，我们对from 意为“离开”的定义并不是“彻底地断开、分裂开”，而是指一个“出发点，起始点”，即“出于”。from ... point of view 即是出于那一观点的考虑。这样，我们就很容易理解from ...angle “从某一角度看”。
